Personalization options
Important note: We cannot
make swords that are copyrighted property of movies, swords from video games,
cartoons, anime, etc. Also some fantasy-swords cannot possibly function
properly as real weapons. Please, do not inquiry these designs with our
company. We don't answer for similar requests in no wise.
Any customization is over and
above the standard sword price and the level of customization will be priced
accordingly. Custom orders require 100% down deposit before we can proceed
with making the sword. This is non-refundable due to the nature of the order;
ArmArt will repair or replace the sword if it arrives to you with any defect
in materials or workmanship. (Note: Customizations and custom orders
may require additional time to make the sword. Please take this into
consideration when placing your order.)
The word
"customizations" refers to the personalization of an
already-existing model. If you want your sword to look other than how it
appears in its photo, we would be happy to personally discuss your needs, and
custom orders go through a different process. We'll get into that in a moment,
but first let's discuss what your options are with personalization:
-
Materials
& design - Pommels and crossguards can be made of steel, bronze or brass (also
silvered, gilt, blackened or blued). The grip can be made of oak, beech,
walnut, bone, horn or be leather-covered or wrapped by twisted wire (iron,
copper, brass, silver, gold). The default option is how the sword appears
in the photo.
-
Engravings
& etching & inlay - You can select from different font sets and
symbols. You can specify text in English, Latin or in other languages, and
which parts of the sword you would like to be engraved, e.g. blade fuller,
crossguard, and pommel - or any combination of the three.

an idea of the personalization options available to you at additional cost,
should you desire to spend extra to make the sword a special heirloom sword.

PERSONALIZATION / CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS
By now your mind may be
swimming with possibilities of a personalized ArmArt sword. We generally
recommend that your selection should adhere to historical examples as much as
possible. Grips and blades can be lengthened but note that any change in
physical dimension will alter the balance and handling of the sword.
If you practice Western Martial Arts, you might prefer a sword made to lighter
specifications. Conversely, some re-enactment troupes might need heavier,
thicker blunted blades to slow their fight choreography down for safety
reasons. Let us know what your needs are. Think of us as your ancient armorer,
and that you've dropped by to visit us at our anvil and forge. We're here to
listen!
ENGRAVINGS &
ETCHING & INLAY
Engraving us done by hand
using fine tools and therefore the more engraving is done, the more
expensive the sword will be, but it will be well worth it, as it is a
one-of-a kind.
Engraved words are typically done in Latin, but other alphabets as Old Greek,
Cyrillic, Runic, Anglo-Saxon etc are available.
Please specify if a certain engraving/etching is required on
one side
or both sides. (Some may opt to, for example, have one sentence in the
blade fuller on one side, and have the reverse side engraved with a different
message.)
Engravings/etching price are calculated per character and the complete
estimate of the additional investment depends on how much is handwork engraved
and the size of the individual characters engraved. Engravings cost depend on
the amount of work required to carve the words out in metal (a process done
diligently by hand tools).
*Please note, that etching
is available for blades only as the fine and economical option.
ENGRAVINGS &
ETCHING & INLAY: FONTS
The following fonts are all
historical style fonts that you would find on a variety of historical knightly
swords. Historically they might not be necessarily called "Alexandros"
(that's our own naming convention).

ENGRAVINGS &
ETCHING: CROSS SYMBOL
Again, following the above
illustration of the S4 Ceremonial Knightly sword, notice that a cross adorns
the pommel - but it also is featured in the pommel's textual inscription, as
well as the crossguard.

EDGE SHARPNESS
You may specify what kind of
edge, depending on the application of the sword. All swords, by default, ship
with sharp edges unless otherwise specified. Those who practice martial
arts and require a certain degree of safety may opt for a blunt edge. Those
who practice stage combat may desire a flat edge. For more information on
Stage Combat, view our article The Needs of Stage
Combat.
If however, you need a design
that does not appear in our online catalog, we can help you with
fully
custom designs.
(We prefer to be as historically accurate as possible. Please note that
certain fantasy weapons and movie swords are copyrighted property and
therefore we cannot legally reproduce them.)
ArmArt's regular models are not made in batches or stock, but are rather
build-to-order. This means that work is started on your personal sword when
the order comes in. This means extra effort and attention and care is given to
each individual sword, but we think that you'll appreciate this personable
approach. Many factories and distributors today churn out swords - some with
flaws and such, and because such large quantities are sold, it doesn't matter
to them how many get returned because the end result is that they make a lot
of money. However, we here at ArmArt approach the entire process
differently. We start with you as a person.
Please note that the price of
customization is in addition to the standard sword price, and the total
cost depends on the level of customization. Engraving costs are calculated per
character and character size. Custom grip woods and grip coverings, pommel and
crossguard materials may be available only on certain models.
Pavel Neumann, the Director of ArmArt, will gladly assist you in your
fully custom, or your Personalization
/Customization Order. |
